Yes, therefore it allows common, standard accessories such as compensators and suppressors. I believe that compensators don't do a lot to change or redirect exhaust gasses in 22's, so I think they're not worth the extra time and trouble in cleaning. Suppressors however, add to the fun factor, and they also work towards protecting your hearing.

It is a silver aluminum rail, well made. If the color bothers you, you could replace it with a Ruger blued/black one or a Tandemkross one like I did

Fibre optic sights standard?

Not on the barrel of the one that I bought last year. I bought it just for the lower, added a volquatsen trigger kit and barrel with red dot. The barrel on the gun has a scope mount for red dot or scope.

Can a red or green dot optic be added?

If you get a plate to interface the red dot mounting to the picatinny rail. Or if your red dot of choice comes with a picatinny rail mount included.

If the top rail is removed, are the holes threaded like on the mark iv lite, to be able to add a different optic mounting system?

The holes are threaded. I removed the rail and merely plugged them with micro-screws from Ruger. I cannot comment on screw-holes being adequate for alternative optic mounting options.

Is the underside of the barrel tapped for a picatinny rail?

Do you see one in the picture? No, there is no picatiny rail under the bsrrel.

Great firearm. But NYS seems to think that it is an “Assault Weapon”.Prior to picking up the Ruger the gun shop cut off the threading on the barrel witch added $75.00 to the cost.Only due to the fact that it has a detachable magazine
