Certain types of firearm magazines are difficult to load. These types of firearms have a large capacity and high spring pressure, which push the rounds to the top of the magazine. But don’t worry! There are products available to make this process easier.
These devices that assist with magazine loaders are typically called “speedloaders”, but they are also known as magazine loaders, stripper clips, and spoons.
How do they work? This depends on the type of speedloader you are using. One such type, knows as the “thumb saver” simply depresses the top round of the magazine so that the next round can be partially inserted with no pressure on it. These are more useful in regards to the ease of loading the mag as opposed to the speed of loading the mag.
The stripper clip, another type of speedloader, holds 5-10 rounds and allows them to be inserted into the magazine by attaching the clip to a bracket and then pressing the rounds in place. These are used in the military; their ammunition is often packaged in a stripper clip. These can be loaded directly into a rifle’s fixed magazine.
Another type of magazine loader, used for shotguns and rifles, is often referred to as a quick loader. These are used for tubular magazines. A quick loader is a tube that holds a magazine capacity amount of cartridges. These magazine loaders allow multiple reloads to be carried.
For shotguns, the speedloaders are more complicated since they are loaded from the breech and require a special bracket to be mounted too the port of the gun.
