SPRINGFIELD XD SERIES OVERVIEW

The Springfield XD started out as the Croatian HS 2000. Springfield acquired the rights to the handgun and rebranded it XD when bringing it to the United States in 2001.

The Springfield XD series covers a wide range of sizes and uses. From the full-size XD to the compact Mod.2, there’s a Springfield XD for everyone. The ergonomics are perfect, and after holding one, you’ll be sold. “Nearly every facet of the XD was crafted to create the most comfortable shooting experience as possible, and they did a superb job.” (1)

The XD is rugged and durable, with a polymer build, steel slide, and an ultra-protective Melonite finish. There are steel inserts on the polymer frame, increasing its durability.

The Springfield XD has a striker status and loaded chamber indicator so you can tell by looking whether it’s cocked and loaded. It also has an effective trio utilizing a firing pin block, grip safety, and the Ultra Safety Assurance Action Trigger System, so there are no accidental discharges.

While Springfield markets this gun for its ergonomics (and they are impressive), its durability is even better. You can put this pistol through the ringer shot after shot and it still operates at peak performance. The only downside to the XD is that aftermarket accessories are few and far between, but you can get a Springfield Essentials Kit with a case, magazine, cable lock, and bore brush.

  • The integrated accessory rail allows for mounting sights, lights, lasers, and more.
  • The metal components of the Springfield XD are given a heat treatment and finished with Tenifer Plus+. This nitrogen-infusing process penetrates the metal, creating a barrier against wear and tear.
  • Included in the Springfield XD series are the XD Mod.2, XD-S, XD(M), and XD-E, all with unique features and uses.

SPRINGFIELD XD AND XD MOD2 SERIES REVIEW

The Springfield XD Mod.2 improves upon the Springfield XD with feature upgrades like a fiber optic front sight, low profile extended rear sight, and insanely ergonomic grip, a result of extensive research and study on the human hand. It has unique textures, anti-slip surfaces, superior comfort, and a patented Grip Zone.

"The focus we're trying to place is that there has been a tremendous amount of work and research that went into this grip. Lots of smart ergonomists put a lot of time into developing a grip that would be a comfortable and functional extension of the hand. There are different zones that the hand has, and that's why the textures are the way they are, where they are." (2)

Not only has Springfield improved upon some of the best features of the original XD, but everything from the slide to the grip to the barrel has been slimmed down to create a smaller, concealed carry version of the original. Plus, all of your existing XD gear and accessories will fit the Mod.2, so you can upgrade and downsize without having to equip yourself with new stuff.

Accuracy and recoil are stunning for a pistol of this size. The fiber optics make it rapid, accurate, and consistent. The rock-solid engineering of the Springfield XD Mod.2 makes a reliable, comfortable concealed carry pistol that’s fun to shoot.

SPRINGFIELD XD-S FOR SALE

Springfield XD pistol for sale

The Springfield XD-S is a slim, compact pistol with a single-stack .45 caliber magazine and a frame that’s easy and comfortable to wrap your hand around.

SPRINGFIELD XD-S REVIEW

The Springfield XD-S is a striker-fired pistol with low-profile sights and aggressive frame texturing. Underneath the barrel is a rail built for a light and on top, there is a three-dot sight and a loaded chamber indicator.

The short frame, slim profile, compact grip, and smaller capacity make it the perfect concealed carry handgun. You don’t lose as much velocity with the shorter barrel as you would think, and certainly not enough that anyone on the receiving end of your defensive shot will notice. Besides, you have 5+1 chances, and you shouldn’t need them all.

Accuracy is excellent if you follow through and takedown is a piece of cake. “It’s perhaps the most perfect bigbore carry gun to be had.” (3)

SPRINGFIELD XD(M) FOR SALE

SPRINGFIELD XDM

The Springfield XD(M) is a 9mm pistol with a most remarkable feature: its huge 19+1 capacity in a factory magazine that actually fits and is more than marginally reliable.

SPRINGFIELD XD(M) REVIEW

Aside from its best feature (read: a lot of bullets), the Springfield XD(M) is soft and snappy. It distributes recoil well enough that you hardly feel it. The interchangeable backstraps allow you to contour the grip to your hand, making it even more comfortable.

The short trigger reset enables increased accuracy. “In shooting the XD(M) 9, I found it was quite accurate. Long-gone are the days of 9mm pistols being considered mere bullet-hoses–good for blasting cheap surplus ammo into the dirt. Now they are expected to be, and are, as accurate as any other pistol or caliber. And so it is with the XD(M) 9.” (4)

SPRINGFIELD XD-E FOR SALE

Springfield XD pistol for sale

The Springfield XD-E is a single-stack 9mm with a polymer frame and the same Grip Zone as all other XD models. But the similarities stop there.

SPRINGFIELD XD-E REVIEW

While the Springfield XD-E shares magazines and sights with the rest of the XD series, it has virtually nothing else in common with any other XD pistol. It’s an entirely different handgun. It’s a slender pistol with ambidextrous thumb safeties and magazine release.

The slide has grasping grooves at the rear and a 3.3-inch barrel. The shootability of the XD-E is good thanks to the recoil control. The trigger pull is eleven pounds, which is more than many people can handle, especially when shooting in succession, but it’s smooth and consistent.

With little to no malfunctions, the Springfield XD-E has created its own sweet spot in the market. “The Springfield Armory XD-E has a niche to itself for now. The only hammer-fired TDA single-stack 9 mm in the same size class is SIG Sauer’s metal-frame P239, which is 5 ounces heavier and has an MSRP nearly double that of the XD-E.” (5)
