Features

The P365 is a striker fired, short-recoil handgun with a stainless-steel slide treated with a Nitron black finish. The slide has serrations on both front and back for easy slide manipulation. The polymer grip accepts a double-stack 10-round magazine. A 12 round magazine was offered as an option. The magazine is released by a triangular button on the grip located at the undercut trigger guard section.

Sights are green tritium 3-dot night sights that are made of steel and are capable of being used to cycle the slide in the case of one-handed use being necessary. Aiming is by combat sighting. A proprietary rail is located below the barrel. Both red and green lasers and a light will be offered as accessory items for this proprietary rail.5

Reviews

What makes the P365 stand out? "It’s all about the magazine. We started with the magazine, and then designed everything around that,” remarked SIG Sauer President and CEO Ron Cohen of the company’s new P365—a striker-fired, semi-automatic pistol chambered for 9 mm Luger and intended for everyday concealed carry”.2

So what makes the magazine on the P365 so special? Is it a single-stack magazine or a double-stack? The answer is...yes!

Here’s how Chris Mudgett described it in Guns & Ammo1: “Instead of leaving the magazine’s design until after this pistol had been created, engineers made the magazine first then built a pistol around it. The concepts were revolutionary, and SIG Sauer received three patents during the process. So, what’s different? The mags are tapered, in other words they are thicker at the bottom and narrower at the top. It’s as if they are two mags in one. Holding the majority of the rounds in a double-stack arrangement, the rounds settle into single file as they near the top of the magazine. Designers could then contour the upper grip frame to better fit a shooter’s thumb and trigger finger.”

P365 vs Glock 43 and Ruger LC9

After Guns&Ammo did a 2,000 round test of the P3653, they said it just might be the Holy Grail of concealed-carry guns. “Why? Well, the new P365 has the same, or slightly smaller dimensions, than other popular single-stack 9mm pistols, such as the Glock 43, Smith & Wesson Shield, Springfield Armory XDs-9 and Ruger LC9s. Except the P365 is not a single-stack pistol. SIG Sauer managed to cram 10 rounds of 9mm into a flush-fitting magazine and 12 into an extended magazine. Remember, the P365 has the same or slightly smaller dimensions than its competition. There is no trickery here, just engineering prowess.” Compare for youself:

P365 LAST WORD

The P365 from Sig Sauer has the shootability of a mid-size semi auto pistol, with more capacity than similar size guns. A short, crisp trigger break will keep your rounds on target, while the ergonomics ensure a good grip. Front serations on the slide and tactical day/night sights all come together into what should be your carry gun.
