GrabAGun | AR-10 for Sale

The AR-10 predated the AR-15 and was Eugene Stoner’s original design for a battle rifle chambered in 7.62 × 51 NATO cartridge (.308 Winchester). The AR-10 is larger and heavier than the AR-15, but if you can handle the size and 9 lb. weight of the AR-10, the benefits of the AR-10 for sale would outweigh those of the AR-15 in a gun battle for your life.

The AR-15 has taken over the market in NATO, police and civilian use. That’s due to the fact that for the lion’s share of situations the AR-15, firing the .223 Remington (5.56 NATO), cartridge is adequate. The platform is accurate, reliable, and light, ammo is readily available and the bullet does extensive damage in whatever it hits. Its recoil is light, almost anyone can shoot an AR-15.

The AR-15 has plenty of penetrating power, far more than is often credited it, and its theoretical limit of range is about 300 yards. It is a great rifle and more than sufficient for most uses, but in the situation of a life and death gunfight requiring greater range and better penetration the AR-10 for sale will win hands down.

NATO selected the M-16/AR-15 platform not because it is better than the AR-10 but because the AR-15 is lighter, the ammo is lighter making it easier to carry more. Other factors in NATOs selection are due to the bullet is fast, light with a flat trajectory and the cartridge has sufficient fire power for the majority of uses.

The difference in fire power between the AR-10 vs. the AR-15 can be illustrated by a comparison of ballistics. The AR-15 fires a 55 grain cartridge at approximately 3100 feet per second from a 16” barrel with a muzzle velocity at 1200 foot pounds of kinetic energy, whereas the .308 Winchester fires a 168 grain cartridge at 2700 feet per second from a 20” barrel with 2700 foot pounds of kinetic energy shooting a flat trajectory as well. A good AR-10 fires hotter, creates more damage and will accurately shoot further.

The AR-10 at 500 yards has approximately one and a half times the energy of a .44 magnum at the muzzle. The recoil in the AR-10 will be greater than the AR-15, and the amount of recoil will vary in the different brands and models. Those with a gas system similar to that in the AR-15 will certainly provide less recoil.

Though the AR-10 first generation was designed as a true battle rifle, and current AR-10s are still often called the same, the current models of the AR-10 for sale are semi-automatic rifles created for civilians. Like any other semi-automatic they fire one shot per trigger pull and do not have an automatic fire feature. Common uses of the modern AR-10 for sale are for hunting and target shooting.
