Walther Guns - PPK, PP, PPQ, P38 - History
Founded in 1886 by Carl Walther, a German gunsmith, Carl Walther GmbH Sportwaffen is one of the world’s leading firearm brands, whose name alone is synonymous with precision design, style, and effectiveness.
Carl Walther was enjoying a successful career as a manufacturer of hunting and target rifles when in 1908, Walther and his son Fritz invented the world’s first semi-automatic pistol, and Walther’s rise to the top of the pistol market was under way.
In 1929, Walther began producing the Walther PP semi-automatic police pistol, which was soon followed by the compact PPK. The Walther PPK gained worldwide fame in 1953 as James Bond’s signature firearm.
In 1938, Walther began producing the Model P38 for the German military, who had called for a more powerful version of the PP. One of the most revolutionary pistols ever produced, the P38 would later influence the Beretta 92 and M9, and was the standard sidearm of the German military from 1938 to 1945 and again from 1957 to 1963.
Today, Walther continues to produce the highest quality pistols, in addition to world class submachine guns, ballistic rifles and air rifles, and GrabAGun proudly carries on the Walther tradition with a large selection of Walther guns and accessories.
