Air Gun Ammo
Looking for air gun ammunition? You’ve come to the right place. Grab A Gun has a great selection of air gun ammo for a number of uses. In case you are unsure what you need, here is some general information:
BBs are the classic air gun ammo, and are popular due to their versatility and low cost. Because BBs ride on top of the ridges in a rifled barrel, and because they are as hard as the barrel, the barrel’s ridges can be worn down over time. This is why BBs are best used with smooth-bored airguns.
Pellets, on the other hand, come in four primary designs: wadcutter, round nose, pointed and hollow point. The type of pellet is determined by the shape of its head. Pellets have an overall “diabolo” shape, meaning that it is smaller around the middle than it is on the ends. The “waist” area in the middle separates the head from the skirt. This shape allows the skirt area to expand when it is fired, which forms a tight seal within the barrel.
While the “pointed” and “round nose” shapes basically speak for themselves, the “wadcutter” shape is flat on top with a slightly beveled edge. The hollow point looks a lot like the wadcutter, except with an indention at the top (for most brands).
The type of airgun ammo you need depends on what you’re going to shoot, and the experience level of the shooter. Wadcutters are known for their accuracy, although they are better over shorter distances (and can be as effective as hollow points for close-up shots). Pointed pellets offer maximum penetration, and round nose pellets pack more “oomph” or knockdown power.
