- Out of the box winner.
After months of searching for a scope that didn't break the bank or triple the cost of the rifle I finally settled for a good Leupold VX-6. Paired with custom hand loads and a lot of math. This rifle will compete with most of the higher end custom rifles that I own. I recommend slow burning powders with this one otherwise the throat will get burned out due to barrel length. Also 150plus grain bullets for max performance. I've taken it to Alaska, Colorado, and Texas. Nothing has gotten away from the business end of the gun and it's very flat shooting with extreme knockdown power. The stock absorbs the kick way less and the floating barrel if slicked properly will treat any average hunter who doesn't want to drop a ton on a custom rifle very well. Out of the box and into the field this is the one to buy. It is a bit heavy for those who tend to trek through the mountains wanting a lighter rifle while carrying a heavy pack. In fact, I'm looking at the .300 win mag for my next rifle. I wouldn't take this to a 1000 yard match unless you're familiar with the ballistic coefficients of the .30-06 and of the same bloodline of Carlos Hathcock. The trigger is decent yet I'm used to custom setups lesser than 2lbs. My son will get this for his first long action rifle and be set for life. Overall, an excellent rifle if you do your homework and find the perfect load for it.
